This site is based on articles and information that we have written and gathered related to protein, sports supplements and nutritional information.

Here are some tips for helping to choose the right protein for your goals:

If you have ever looked at a fitness or bodybuilding website you undoubtedly know that protein is one of the most important supplement you could ever put into your body. However, what most beginning athletes and bodybuilders do not know is that choosing the wrong protein can actually hinder them in their progress. Sounds strange right? Isn’t all protein created equal? Turns out – it totally is not. By knowing the difference in some of the key proteins it will become clearer which protein is right for you in certain situations.

Whey protein

If you have ever set foot into a nutritional supplements store you will have likely seen endless shelves with whey protein on them. Whey protein has the distinction of being one of the protein powders that is digested into your very rapidly, and it has the most leucine in all of the protein powders. Leucine stimulates the building of muscle and protein synthesis. But then again, not all whey proteins are created equal, the most common forms of whey protein are Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Micronparticulated Whey, and Whey Protein Hydrolysate, in order of how fast they are absorbed into your body. Whey protein can be consumed whenever you want during the day, but most people take it in the morning or as their post-workout shake because of how fast it is absorbed into the body.

Casein protein

The second most popular and discussed protein in the bodybuilding community is casein protein. The benefits of casein are that it digests very slowly, this means it lasts a long time and releases into your body at a slower rate than whey protein does. This means that casein protein feeds your muscles for a long time after whey protein would have stopped doing so. While whey protein is a perfect protein for a quick boost or recovery after training, more research is showing that casein is vital when it comes to preventing your muscles from breaking down during the day.

Soy protein

We know that the other forms of key protein are derived from milk products, but what if you are lactose intolerant or a vegetarian/vegan. In that case, soy protein is the perfect solution, because it is a product that is created solely from soybeans. Soy protein provides a healthy alternative to get protein into your diet that is not based off animals. Soy protein is also great when it comes to adding several health benefits to the human body. People can actually use soy protein instead of flour when it comes to cooking, and this should make for an ideal combination for bodybuilders who want to use it for cooking.

Now that you understand some of the differences in types of protein, it becomes easier to find the right protein for your needs, if you want to have a protein that lasts throughout the day, be sure to go for casein protein. If you want something quick – whey protein may be the best way to go. And if you do not want to consume animal products or are simply lactose intolerant, soy protein is perfect.
